Ghosts Aren't Real

inFact: Ghost Hunting

I found some really great videos by YouTuber HauntedHoax. He is all about the ghost busting, debunking and hoaxing for educational purposes.

The nice thing is that his videos are also entertaining. A lot of skeptic videos that try to be funny usually fail. I don’t know why, but the humor is just lame. This guy does it right.

Check out his channel here for all his videos:  http://www.youtube.com/user/HauntedHoax

I’ll embed two of my favorites below:

First a funny one:

And a serious debunk:

This is a really great video explaining skeptical thinking. It’s kinda dry, but the info is spot on:

So awesome, so very very awesome:

I approve this hoaxer

TheFakingHoaxer, has been all over the blogs today. He makes CGI videos of UFO’s and Space Shuttle disasters mainly. The videos are made with faked camera shake and lens fuzziness to give them an authentic, raw film quality that helps to cover up the tell-tale signs of digital manipulation. His tools are commonplace (Photoshop, Adobe Premier), but the results are uncommonly cool.

He has one video of ghost photos. Unlike his other vids, this one is just a slide show of still images. They look like vintage photos taken in settings from around the turn of the century. I hope he gets around to doing a ghost video with moving action. I would love to see him fake a night-vision style video like the Ghost Hunters’  shows.

Jason Sullivan of Midwest Haunts finally has cleared up my lingering doubt about ghosts. He is the first Ghost Hunter I’ve heard define a ghost.

His definition is at 3:17 and is this: “When a person dies, they turn into a new form of energy.”

That’s it, no citation, no support, no evidence, and no facts. Just a statement.

I could say “When a person dies, they turn into a marshmallow” and have just as much factual support for that statement as he does for his “energy”.

The Wem Town Hall “ghost” photo has been famous for years. I remember seeing it in “true ghost” books that I had as a kid.

This Forgetomori post contains some video and fascinating discussion about research into the negatives of the photo that indicate it might be a hoax.

I honestly don’t know if the Girl in the Fire photo is a hoax or not. The program raised some good questions, but it didn’t seem to me (for the information given) to really be an overwhelmingly clear case of fraud.

But, this is what makes sense to me:

The Michael Jackson Ghost on CNN

December 16th, 2009

I really like this ghost sighting. You can’t do much better than a recent headliner tragedy involving a mega-star.

What might modern TV cameras catch in the mega-star’s empty mansion? Perhaps his ghost? His shade? Oh wait, maybe just a shadow.  *watches again*  Yep, just a shadow.

Here is the awesome video:

And here is the whole thing debunked on the great Forgetomori blog.

Thank you Captain Disillusion!
